As a salesperson, calling on customers requires you to figure out what they need, and how you can help them with your product or service, all while getting them to trust and feel comfortable with you. One way to gain trust and respect is to speak the language the customer is speaking. Doing this helps you to better understand their needs, position your solution, and explain the benefits, therefore better closing the sale.
