Course Description

This is the final module of a nine-part series looking at dementia. In this module, we look at the complex area of responding to BPSD, with the foundational understanding that behaviour is an attempt to communicate, and that often it is an unmet need that is being signalled.

This course has been mapped to the Aged Care Quality Standards:

  • distinguish the person from the disease, so that you can treat the person with dignity and respect (Aged Care Quality Standard 1)
  • assess behaviour and plan responses that ensure safe and effective care and services (Aged Care Quality Standard 5 – 5.4, 5.6)
  • tailor care and services to the individual’s needs and preferences (Aged Care Quality Standard 1 – 1.1, and ACQS 3)
  • support the individual’s emotional, spiritual and psychological well-being (Aged Care Quality Standard 5 – 5.7)
